Saturday, April 13th, 2018, @ 10:00 a.m.
The Queens Botanical Garden
43-50 Main Street, Flushing, Queens, NY, 11355

All roses benefit from early spring pruning and a general cleaning up of the garden. Fertilizing and watering is also essential. I will give advice on how to do all this successfully. Bring your questions. We might also go out and look at the roses to better understand how and what to prune.

About Our Presenter

Nancy Marr has grown countless roses for over 20 years. She grows exhibition Hybrid Teas as well as many shrubs and old garden roses, and is a consulting rosarian who has given many talks relating to rose care. She is the current Vice President of the Long Island Rose Society and has held many other positions in the organization and in others. She is also the ARS New York District Chair of the Old Garden Roses Committee and was awarded the district’s Outstanding Consulting Rosarian Award in 2017. Always willing to help new rosarians with questions they may have and always willing to help people to identify Old Garden Roses in our region, she is known as one of the New York Metro Area’s rose experts.

Artists and illustrators have painted and drawn the rose for centuries. From the tradition of beautiful flower painting to painstakingly detailed illustration, the rose has been the subject of fascinating studies that reflect mankind's interests and passions. Gene Waering will briefly explore the Western chapters of this story, from the 18th century to the present, through a presentation of selected drawings in his collection of historic rose art.

About Our Presenter

He edited the Centennial edition of the American Rose Annual in 2016 and co-edited several other rose volumes including The Sustainable Rose Garden(2010) with Pat Shanley and Peter Kukielski. He is past president of the Jacksonville Rose Society and current board member of both the Jacksonville Rose Society and the Manhattan Rose Society.
